4th of JulyI am sure that all of our 4th of July celebrations have one common factor, fireworks. As long as I can remember I have attended firework shows on the 4th of July. From Steele Park in downtown Phoenix, to Tempe Town Lake, I have always attended one of the patriotic displays in Arizona. But this had me wondering why we celebrate the 4th of July with Fireworks? Are fireworks a patriotic display? The truth is fireworks have been around for centuries, the earliest documented firework display dates back to the 7th century in China.

So as Americans what’s the big draw on the 4th of July to fireworks? Well, John Adams told us to use them. Before the Declaration of Independence was ever signed, he knew that fireworks would be part of the celebrations. The first 4th of July firework display was July 4, 1777, but before this fireworks and black ash were used to celebrate important events in the American Revolutionary War (Wikipedia). The tradition has been kept ever since with parks, town squares, and fairgrounds all lighting up the sky with fantastic displays. I have kept the tradition alive and now my children love to see the bight fireworks and elegant displays. Below is a list of the 4th of July Celebrations in Arizona. Enjoy your holiday!
