How REALTORS® Protect Arizona Property Rights
Arizona REALTORS®’ legislative efforts not only maintain a stable environment for statewide real estate transactions, our efforts are targeted at preserving private property rights for all Arizonans.
A $20.2 million savings for homeowners
Each year the state rebates up to $600 to individual homeowners to offset their property taxes. When this rebate was threatened, Arizona REALTORS® successfully saved homeowners more than $20.2 million by protecting the rebate from state budget cuts.
Utility fees must be paid for by those who use them
In 2011, Arizona REALTORS® championed legislation to prohibit municipalities from requiring payment from anyone other than the individual who is contracted for the municipal water and wastewater services, physically resides or resided at the location, and receives or received the service. However, that still left homeowners and landlords on the hook for past due garbage collection, utility user fees, private water and wastewater charges and sewer utility services rates and charges.
During the 2015 legislative session, Arizona REALTORS® supported legislation titled “Responsibility of payment; utility services” that would prohibit certain fees for residential services to be charged to anyone other than a person who physically resides or resided at the property, and who receives or received the services. The bill was approved by the Senate and the House and became law in July.
