Arizona REALTORS® Backed Candidates Sail to Victory
Tuesday, August 30 marked Arizona’s Primary Election. In a political season that has proven to be nothing less than interesting, the overwhelming majority of the candidates that Arizona REALTORS® endorsed were victorious.
During this primary election cycle, we supported 79 candidates for the state legislature and 72 will proceed to the general election this November.
In the Senate, there were a number hotly contested races that yielded both success and disappointment for our state association. One major win was the successful election of REALTOR® Champion Sonny Borrelli. Since he is uncontested in the general election, Borrelli will be the state senator for District 5.
Unfortunately, longtime REALTOR® and friend to the association, Senator Jeff Dial lost in the primary to challenger Frank Schmuck.
Looking forward, it is likely that Republicans will remain in control in the senate, however with the loss of Senator Dial, there is a slim chance that the political party makeup of the senate could be split.
Key races that we will keep our eyes on in the general election are Sen. Allen v. Nikki Bagley in District 6, Rep. Pratt v. Sen. McGuire in District 8, Frank Schmuck v. Sean Bowie in District 18, and Rep. Brophy-McGee v. Rep. Meyer in District 25. Arizona REALTORS® endorsed Allen, Pratt and McGee.
In the House, Arizona REALTORS® endorsements held strong. Rep. Regina Cobb, District 5, retained her seat and REALTOR® Champion Senator Don Shooter successfully won his election to the State House.
The Arizona Association of REALTORS® has a strong track record of success in the political arena. Year after year, the association’s endorsements consistently maintain a success rate of 90-percent or better.
This year our primary election success rate was 91-percent, proving that the REALTOR® Party has one united voice to promote and elect candidates that protect and promote homeownership and property investment.
