Arizona REALTORS® Adopt a House for Homeless in Mesa
As REALTORS®, we believe that everyone deserves a safe place to call home, and are committed to giving back to the communities in which we serve.
“Home is where we become whole again and helping people find safe homes is our daily work,” said Arizona REALTORS® 2017 President Paula Monthofer.
With that incredible spirit in mind, it was a natural fit for Arizona REALTORS® to partner with House of Refuge and “adopt a house.” This organization works to provide families facing homelessness with a safe place to live, and our donation will keep a family housed on the nonprofit’s campus for one year.
Many of those seeking shelter at House of Refuge are victims of domestic violence and need a stable home where they can work to put their lives back together.
I was homeless with two children when I was accepted into the program at House of Refuge.
While at House of Refuge, I finalized my divorce, paid off my bankruptcy debt and began saving
through an IDA (Individual Development Account) for a home. This was a lot of work. But I set
new life goals and attained them. I cleaned up my credit, advanced in my career and was also
able to purchase my first new home. – Linda, former House of Refuge resident
Situated on nearly 20 acres in Mesa, House of Refuge operates 88 two-bedroom, single family homes that help homeless families in crisis as they strive towards self-sufficiency and seek to obtain permanent housing. On any given day approximately 100 adults and 150 children reside on the House of Refuge campus.
Recent HUD funding cuts resulted in the loss of nearly $820,000 of federal grant money typically used to help support House of Refuge families. Facing this funding crisis, the organization is seeking companies or private donors to sponsor homes and Arizona REALTORS® was proud to answer that call.
