On January 10, nearly 350 REALTORS® from across Arizona gathered at the Capitol to meet with legislators and discuss topics impacting real estate and the local housing market in 2017.

Arizona REALTORS® at the Capitol is an annual event and member participation has grown steadily over the past several years.

The day included a REALTOR® Rally, lunch with state legislators and a keynote address from Arizona House Speaker J.D. Mesnard.

“You guys do a phenomenal job of getting involved,” said Mesnard. “I applaud you on your engagement.”

Kent Simpson with Long Realty Company drove up from Tucson. “I come every year,” he said. “It gives me an opportunity to learn what is coming down the legislative pipeline and what issues are affecting REALTORS®, the industry and our clients.”

Top issues this year revolve around the Homeowners Rebate Program, as well as professional service taxes which threaten to shift tax burdens to property owners.

The Arizona Association of REALTORS® (Arizona REALTORS®) is urging legislators to consider the potentially negative impact these changes will have on the industry and state economy.

“One our most important functions is to act as an advocate for the real estate industry on a political level,” said Arizona REALTORS® CEO Michelle Lind. “We advocate for the rights of property owners and a free-market business environment.”
